Counting cards Trello style
Don't worry - it's not hard and it's not even frowned upon to count cards when it comes to Trello
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and are gearing up for a lovely new years celebration this weekend! I’m getting ready to do my annual review and planning process, and soon I’m going to do my favorite tradition, which is to show you my process and how my annual goals Trello board has evolved this year!
It’ll take a few weeks, but it’ll be worth the wait. In the meantime, here’s some other useful content for you!

This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
Dear Taco,
Should I keep everything in one board or have multiple boards? I lose track when I have too many boards, but sometimes having everything in one just feels too chaotic. What's the right answer?
Thanks,
Getting On Board
Dear Getting on Board,
This is a fantastic question and one I get asked a lot. While there’s not really a single answer that works for everyone, here's what I have found helpful for me.
Start with one board and use lists for different categories and labels to further refine things in those categories. When that feels too crowded, start using board filters to only show cards that belong to you, or are due this week, or have a specific label and this will ensure that you only see the most relevant cards.
When even that feels too crowded, OR when you have more than a thousand cards on a board or your feel that your board has been moving pretty slowly.
Once you cross that threshold, or if your personal preference is leaning towards multiple boards but that feels chaotic, use the starred feature to highlight the boards you want to interact with the most, and set up automation for moving cards between boards via buttons or labels. (You can see an example of how I do this with my backlog board and my weekly to-do list board.)
Hope that helps!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

💡 Use Case Idea
Collect feedback from your customers and store it in Trello!
Did you notice that when you signed up for this newsletter, you received a link to a form to provide feedback about what you were expecting in this newsletter? I use the Forms by Blue Cat power-up to take those responses and create Trello cards so that I can review that feedback on a regular basis and make sure to incorporate it in my newsletter.
I have lists for tracking which ones I’ve reviewed and any that specifically requested follow-up (which up until lately I’ve mostly been able to actually personally respond to everyone, but I’m still catching up with those!)
You can also use checklists to create additional action items based on feedback from users, and specifically, you can use advanced checklists to assign members and due dates to those tasks.
⚡️ Featured Power-Up
The List Limits Power-Up shows you how many cards you have in each list! You can set limits so if you have more than that number of cards in the list, it will turn the entire list to a yellow color to warn you.
While I don’t generally require myself to limit the cards in lists, I do find it useful for a quick visual counting of how many cards are in each list!
That’s all for this week! Next week I’ll be at a game park in South Africa (not hunting but just observing some really beautiful animals at a very nice resort!).
But don’t worry - I’ll still stop by your inbox and say hello and provide a few quick tips. :)
