Experience Trello's conference vicariously with me 🕶️
Heya folks! Shorter newsletter edition this week because I’ve been doing a BUNCH of prep for Team24, which is basically an annual Trello party. 😃
Don’t worry—you can reap the benefits of my preparation, even if you’re not going to Team!
🌮 Sharing cards but not a whole board
🗞️ What’s happening at Team24?
🛎️ Mapping your cards (literally)
💪 A trinity of Power-Ups!
⚡ Merging duplicate cards
🌮 Dear Taco
This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
Can I share a card with users in my org, without sharing an entire board or other cards?
~ Geonphxe
Hey Geonphxe,
There’s not a way to do this via Trello natively. I’d recommend having cards you want to share on a specific board, and having cards you don’t want to share on another board. However, there’s a Power-Up that will help you achieve this.
Set your board members and visibility to only those you want to see the entire board, and then use the External Share Power-Up to get a link for a card:
Here’s an example of what it will look like! I keep my Dear Taco cards on a private board, but I can am using the External Share to share your query: https://trll.io/c/0zy9dpVcEj
If you just share a card, they won’t be able to comment, but if you create a share option in the board, you can specify which cards should be shared (based on a list or label) and allow commenting on those cards.
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!
🗞 New(s) and Links
Team24 is next week!! Come see me, I’ll be all decked out.
For those who don’t know, Team is Atlassian’s annual user conference. I went for the first time last year, and it was easily the best time I’ve ever had at a conference.
I spent so much time at the Trello booth, made more friends and connections, and got fantastic Atlassian updates.
It took me years to finally make it to this event because it’s not easy for many of us to dedicate a whole week and trip fees to a product we love. So, if you can’t make it, don’t worry—you can live vicariously through me!
Here’s what I’m planning for the Vicarious Experience™
Get my predictions
Submit your questions for me to ask the Trello team
Daily recaps from the conference (Tues-Thurs)
Checklist of takeaways and action items
Recorded versions of the talks I’m giving at the Trello booth
Sticker swag package! (If you’re based in the US, I’ll mail you a pack of stickers I collect from different booths throughout the week!)
Last year, I offered this Vicarious Experience to my premium subscribers (who said they loved it by the way 💙 ). This year, all my readers can participate since I’m offering a 14-day free trial of premium, which means you can get all the perks of the Team experience and then cancel afterward without costing you a penny.
Try it out, and you’ll start getting some bonus content early next week.
(Including the ability to submit your feature requests and your questions for me to share with the Trello team!)
🛎️ Trello Tip of the Week
Use the Location field on a card to specify an address, which can be useful for viewing your cards on Map View. This is useful for planning routes for deliveries or jobs, or for planning trips and coordinating what activities to do when.
💪 Featured Power-Up(s)
As a tribute to the three Power-Ups who are sponsoring my journey to Team next week, I wanted to give them a special shout-out here as well. I specifically reached out to these Power-Ups because I have used their tools and have recommended them across many use cases.
📫 SendBoard's Email for Trello Power-Up makes handling emails in a Trello board a breeze. Imagine each email becoming a card you can automate, add tasks, and coordinate with your team. That's exactly what Sendboard does. I use this Power-Up daily to keep track of questions folks ask me about Trello.
👪 Crmble is the most efficient way to manage contacts in Trello. Many years ago, I wrote a blog post about how I built a CRM in Trello, and it worked alright, but it was missing some stuff that I just couldn't solve. And then Crmble came along and made a Power-Up that not only set up your board as a CRM out of the box with the fields you need but also fixed the gaps I'd missed (like reporting and syncing with other tools). I'm also using Crmble to keep track of any sponsored content or consulting deals, and I can confirm - they make it easy peasy.
🔄 Unito brings all the tools I use together. While I always use Trello, not everyone else can always get on board with that. (Pun intended.) Or sometimes, even when they can, we can't all operate in the same board. Unito lets folks work where it makes sense (yes sometimes that's Jira 😂) and keeps everything in sync. I'm using Unito to keep track of everything for Team24 and sync my Trello boards with my Google Calendar, and with other Trello boards! (Check out that wild Trello board here.)
Special shoutout to my premium sponsors!
