🛎️ Newbie tips

Term of the week

  • Triggers: Actions or events that initiate automations in Trello. There are four types of triggers and this is how Trello automations are grouped:

    • Manually clicking a button (card or board buttons)

      • Example, add a button to a card that when you click it, the card moves to another list.

    • A specific time (Scheduled)

      • Example: Every Friday, send an email report with all cards in “Done” list.

    • A specific time in relation to a card’s due date (Due Date)

      • Example: The monday before a card is due, move it to “This Week” list.

    • Other actions inside of Trello (Rules)

      • Example: “When a card is added to a board, assign a member to it.”

💡 Inspiration and ideas

My partner is currently job hunting (hey if you’re looking for a project manager or anything in the legal field, hit me up!), so this means it’s been time to break out the job hunting Trello boards.

If you or someone you know is looking for work, I highly recommend using a Trello board to keep track of roles you come across, the files you need (custom resumes and cover letters), and any specific tasks you need to do, like projects or follow-ups with recruiters.

🍷 Pairs well with Trello:

If you’re on the hunt for flexible tools that solve specific problems, you should check out Zite.

Imagine being able to go to Trello and say “I want a board that does x”. Well. Unfortunately, we don’t have that. But with Zite, you can say “I want a kanban style board for x” and it will build it for you!

Or… you can say “I want a landing page for my new service I’m offering”, and 🪄 it appears!

I’ve got a whole slew of use cases I’ve been trying with it. My latest is my chore tracking app. Basically what I built in a very complicated way in Trello, I’ve rebuilt in a much more user friendly and asthetically pleasing design just by typing prompts away in Zite.

And it has the MOST generous free tier I’ve seen yet. For real, I can’t even figure out how to upgrade it because I haven’t hit a single paywall.

⚡Introducing new Support Desk for my Premium Subs

Do you wish you had a personal genie that could just answer your Trello questions for you on-demand, no need to get on a call or pay for consulting time?

Many of my subscribers have no idea this is a premium subscriber benefit that I offer.

I respond to every email (just may take me a few days!), and am able to help most folks accomplish exactly what they’re looking for, without ever getting on a call.

Here’s a response I got recently:

Now I’m going to get meta and share some questions about questions…

What kind of questions can I ask?

Anything! I get questions from “can Trello do this?” to “which power-up should i use for x” to “how would I automate this really specific and random thing?”

I answer them all to the best of my ability!

What’s the best way to ask?

Please describe your question and include screenshots if you can. Screen recordings are even better!

  • Loom lets you record up to 5 minutes for free, or you can record with your computer’s screen recording and upload to Google Drive, then send me a link.

How soon will you hear back?

I am not promising any specific times… I’m a one-woman show, and sorry, but I can’t give SLAs, haha.

But I can say I’ve never had anyone say that I took too long to respond, or that my response was too late.

I’ll usually respond within a couple of days, and if it’s something really complex, I’ll explain that I need to dig into it for you instead of leaving you hanging.

How does this work if we don’t get on a call? I’m a visual learner and need to see!

That’s why I use Loom extensively! When I respond, I pretty much always include screenshots with annotations pointing to what you need to look at. And more often than not, I include a video showing you step by step how to do what you’re attempting.

Okay, but what if I still want to get on a call?

It’s pretty hard to nail down a specific time to get on a call with me these days, which is why I have such limited consulting availability. Offering these async solutions with email and video recordings help me be able to answer your questions on my time (which might be well outside your work hours), so I can unblock you more quickly. If you’re interested in a face to face call, I’m happy to share a link with my consulting availability and a discounted rate for premium subscribers.

How do I send my questions?
