🌎 Is Trello better than a travel tracking app?
I added an app, and then created a board to compare. Read to see which I chose and why 👀
Travel and Trello is on my mind lately as I’m entering a busy travel season. I’m back from Italy 🇮🇹 and had an absolute blast. My new favorite way to get around is via those e-scooters (the ones you stand on) because you can cover a lot of ground and not break a sweat 😂.
This week’s newsletter is coming to you from San Francisco (well, specifically San Mateo)… I’m here for a conference for work, but if anyone in the area wants to say hello, reply to this email, and I’ll see what we can make happen!

Trello vs. Travel Tracking App
Let’s jump in!
🌮 Dear Taco
This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
Dear Brittany! I have a question: I, master in copy and paste, have accidentally triggered the premium version of Trello - after noticing the error/incident, after some searching I found the billing page; and was able to create a ticket. Someone from the Trello team got in touch today, and I hope everything will be settled to your satisfaction.
When such accidents or mishaps happen, what to do? - Are there steps that one must/should take? - What is reasonable in such cases?
Can you give tips - Do's and Don'ts?
~Ernst from Vienna
Hello, Ernst! Ernst is one of my German-speaking readers, so I’ve taken his question and asked Google Translate to help so I hope my English answer is helpful to be translated back for him, but also helpful for my English speakers too!
Ernst, you’ve done exactly the right thing! Many people don’t know this, but if you have an issue with Trello, such as finding a bug or a billing issue, you can best contact Trello’s support team. I can personally attest that it’s always been a great experience. They’re quick to respond and resolve the issue!
You might be wondering - when should I post in the community/message Brittany or contact Trello? If you think something is broken in Trello or are experiencing an issue with your account or billing, contact Trello. If you want to know how to do something in Trello or get ideas about how to use Trello or build automation, ask in the community (or ask Dear Taco!)
As far as DO’s for asking for Trello help…
✅ Be friendly :) No one wants to go out of their way to help grumpy, angry people
✅ Give as much detail as you can
✅ Show screenshots wherever possible
✅ Describe your ideal workflow and what you want to achieve (not just your question! Sometimes you might have a specific question but if you share your overall goal, there might be another way to do it!)
And for the DON’Ts…
🛑 DON’T be rude. Many folks in the community are answering questions in their free time and are not paid to do so. They also have no control over Trello features, and the Support Team doesn’t get to prioritize features, so don’t shoot the messenger if someone doesn’t give you the answer you want!
🛑 DON’T be surprised if the answer is a paid option. While Trello has an abundance of amazing free features and Power-Ups, for some advanced functions you might have to pay for a premium plan or a Power-Up. You’re welcome to specify that you’re looking for a free option, but please don’t take it out on the responder if there is not a free option.
🛑 DON’T give out personal information on forums. You should never need to include your email address or other personal information when posting in the community. Remember, anyone can see what you post there, so showing a
And that’s pretty much it!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

💡 Use Case Idea
Travel tracking with Trello!
In my international travels this week, I realized that I had no idea how many countries I’d actually been to. I started searching for apps to keep track and then I realized… silly me, I could do this in Trello. (I actually added an app first, and then created a board and realized every feature I liked about the app, I was able to reproduce in Trello).
I had already started keeping track of airports that I’ve been to in Trello, but I realized I could keep track of multiple things, and then use the Daschards Power-Up to display a count of all of them, anytime I want to see the current status!
BONUS: With Trello Premium, I can add location data to these and view them on a map!
Dashcards is super easy to set up… if you’ve never used it before, it’s basically a quick way to set a filter and count how many cards meet that criteria.
If you’re one of my premium subscribers, you can view and copy this Trello Travel Template, archive the cards in the Countries/States/Airports lists, then fill in with your own info!
Special shoutout to my premium sponsors!

I fully planned my 19-day UK and Amsterdam trip in Trello. I didn't use it like you described. I've put some thought into how to share out my idea since I'm really proud of the results. Haven't figured out yet how to share it.
