🌮 Dear Taco

This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.

I cross reference my cards a lot. (i.e. the same spaghetti recipe will be under 3 lists titled "Entres", "Pasta: and "Italian". If I update the recipe in "Pasta", is there a way that the other 2 will automatically be updated with my doing it manually?

D.R.

Hey D.R! So you want card syncing it sounds like. Depending on where you store your recipe (in the description? in a checklist?) you might be able to do this with automation.

For instance if you have a recipe checklist, you could create a rule to watch when an item is added to (and another one for when its removed from) a checklist

And then use the Cascade action to find a card with the name of the card:

And then add an action for updating the recipe checklist with the checklist item from the original card. Everything put together will look like this!

(You’d just need to duplicate that rule for when something is removed from a checklist!)

Happy cooking!! I love keeping track of recipes in my trello board too!

Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

I finally got around to making a video about what it was like to write a book! What do you think??

🛟 How To and FAQs

  • Move a board between workspaces

  • Use Dashcards to keep an eye on performance in your Trello boards

  • Moving completed cards without using due dates

💡 Use Case Idea

I used Trello to keep track of my tasks for writing my book, and now I’m using Trello to coordinate my marketing efforts!

I’ve got a list for reference and resources, and then an Ideas list for my backlog of all the things I want to do. I’ve added due dates for things that have been prioritized, and I sort the list by due date so I can see what’s next. (Could also just switch to calendar view.)

When something is in progress, I move it over there, and I have a list on the far right (not pictured) for anything that’s done so I can keep track and celebrate haha.

I also have a list for interviews, as I’m trying to line up some podcasts and youtube channels to join. I’m using labels to keep track of the stage each medium is at.

I’ve also got a list for a social calendar, which I may drop content into and convert into a social media publishing tool (since I’ve already done that before).

⚡️ Featured Group

Aha! You were expecting a featured Power-Up and I switched it up on you! 🤓 Glad you’re paying attention. No specific Power-Up today, but I do want to call out a section of the Atlassian Community that you might want to join if you’re managing Trello for your company.

It’s the Trello Admins Group! Traditionally a bit quiet, but getting a big reboot. Come join the party and learn about upcoming enterprise features and best practices for managing Trello for your organization (no matter how large or small it is!)

Feel free to say hello and introduce yourself with a comment, or jump into my latest discussion where I ask what I can do to help Trello admins!
