🌮 Dear Taco
Dear Taco!
I complete tasks in multiple apps, including Obsidian, and Trello. I want to keep a master log of completed tasks in an Obsidian daily note. Daily notes are local, markdown formated, .md text files with the title yyyymmdd.md
Can you suggest an automation that will append the name of card to a local markdown file on a mac? The trigger is when the card is moved from any list to Done 🎉.
Bonus points for an automation that appends to the daily note when a checklist item is completed on a card in any list on the board.
Hey
! Thanks for the question! You’re really pressing the limits of Trello here and I love it 😂
I’ll rip the bandaid now - I don’t know of any way to append items to a local file on your computer. APIs wouldn’t help since it’s a local thing/not cloud, so you’ve rendered me confuddled there.
Here’s what I think might be the next best thing.
What if at the end of the day, you had an email with your lists of tasks to copy then paste into Obsidian?
Without knowing exactly how you have your done list set up, I can’t say exactly what automation you’d use. You’d likely need to create a custom date field and then create an automation that sets this field to “now” when a card is moved to your done list.
Then you could make an automation that looks like this:
And you’d get an email every day like this:
Which you can just copy that text (with the links!) and paste it in Obsidian. Hope that helps or gets you closer to the right direction!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

Term of the week
Checklists/Checklist items: these are items you can add inside a Trello card to break down a card even further, into multiple steps. The items themselves could even be links to other cards. The checklist is the combination of all the steps, and the checklist items are the individual items, which you can assign to a member and provide a due date.
Tip of the week
Trello boards can contain an unlimited amount of lists! (These are the columns inside your boards.) Click the →← icon on a list to collapse it, making it easier to de-clutter your boards.
Just getting started with Trello? Make sure to avoid these 3 mistakes.

🍷 Pairs well with Trello
While I use Trello to keep track of my tasks, I can’t get everyone to put everything in my boards. Sometimes a task appears in my email or Slack.
And while I can’t think of a better way to organize my tasks, Trello is still missing my calendar in it (although hopefully that won’t be the case forever , but I can’t say much here yet 🤐).
To solve these problems, I use Akiflow. It’s a comprehensive productivity that collects your tasks from every tool you use (yes, including Trello) and aggregates them so you can sort and plan out by day. You can also see tasks alongside your calendar.
Akiflow isn’t sponsoring this post, but the trial links are affiliate links. Using that link gives you an extended trial and I may get a small commission if you subscribe.
