🌮 Dear Taco
Dear Taco,
Is there any way to make a portfolio (as a content writer) using Trello?!
~ Etsh
Hey Esth! Absolutely!
I’ve done this before making a resume in Trello, and you could do something similar with your writing!
You have a lot of freedom in how you could set this up. I might try something like each card = a piece of content you want to show (maybe use the card cover to show the thumbnail of the post or an image associated with it?) And of course, attach a link to it in the card.
(If each piece of content is a link, you could just paste the link as the card name, and Trello will try to make a smart link and embed it for you, like this!)
You could just the lists to organize the types of content you’ve done - maybe have a list for short form, another list for long-form… or the types of industries or companies you’ve worked with!
I’d use the first list to tell a little more about yourself and give folks a way to contact you. Something like this.
(You can use card covers to style the sections, or you can just type the card name with three dashes to create a divider!)
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!
🗞 New(s) and Links
New Trello feature coming soon!! Collapsible lists with list colors!!
Coming soon, you can add colors to your lists, and collapse or expand them! This is incredibly handy for keeping content easily accessible, but also keeping your board as focused and de-cluttered as possible. Just another reason Trello is a great tool for mile-high views while still being able to zoom into the details.
You can read more in the announcement in the community. These changes should be rolling out in mid-March and will only be available for paid Trello users (boards in Standard, Premium, and Enterprise workspaces).
🛎️ Trello Tip of the Week
Noticing some changes on your board you didn’t expect and can’t tell how it happened? Go to the Board Menu by clicking the three dots in the top right corner, then click Activity. You’ll see a list of whats happened on the board recently, allowing you to see what lists or cards were changed or moved! (And by whom!)
💡 Use Case Idea
🌍 Annual Trip Planner
Usually I create one board for each trip I’m taking, OR I keep a list in my main planning board with a card for each trip. Well, this year I’m trying a different approach, and so far I think I like it a lot more!
I’ve got an entire board that’s dedicated to my travels, and each list represents a trip.
Since I’ll be able to collapse lists, this will be a lot easier to look at because I can just collapse a list after a trip has passed (or I can archive it!)
Each list has a few core things. Notice the first card is the trip and the dates. This is so I can easily view everything on my timeline and calendar views.
I use labels to indicate tasks that still need to happen for trips, like paying someone back or booking something, so I can always tell what’s next on deck.
Each list also has a card for any expenses I want to keep track of, and another card I’m using as a section header for “To Dos” so that I can keep track of anything I need to do specifically for a trip.
There are also hotel and flight (or campground!) cards where I can easily store those details so I have everything I need right at my fingertips, and I don’t have to look up stuff in my email.
I’m adding this board as a template to my templates workspace, so if you’re a premium subscriber to my newsletter, you can copy my template and plan out your trips!
💪 Featured Power-Up
Although not something I personally need on many boards, many folks ask about it in the Atlassian Community.
If you’ve ever wished your cards had a number, like a ticket, you can add this free and easy-to-use Card Numbers Power-Up that adds a unique number to each card on Trello (also a great way to keep track of which cards are older and newer!)
Try it out and let me know what you think!
