Using Trello as a CRM
🌮 Dear Taco
This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
I use the timeline view for seeing and scheduling projects. I love the ease of moving the dates. Do you know if Trello is working on being able to move the cards to another list in a similar way as changing the dates?
~ Chris
Chris, this is such a great question, and great minds think alike because I too have wanted this. I don’t know that it’s happening, all I can say is that I have made an official feature request for it, and I also recently met one of the developers who work on timelines, and while he obviously can’t just build in new features because I ask for them, I did pitch it as an idea that he might want to try out one of his “innovation” day projects.
In the meantime, I have been relying on Trello’s smart suggestions for moving a card to another list. It seems to start to learn common actions you do and will pop over a nice recommendation for moving cards, which isn’t as easy as dragging and dropping, but much nicer than having to go click through everything in the move menu.
Here’s what it looks like if you haven’t seen it yet - comes up when you click “move card” underneath the title
Another interim solution is to use Automation to make a card button that when clicked moves a card to a specific list. Again, not as easy as dragging and dropping like you can with dates, so I’ll keep making sure they’re aware that would be useful!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!
🗞 New(s) And Upcoming
🎥 I’ll be live next Friday, Feb 3 at 10:30 CST to talk about how I do my annual planning in Trello and the changes I’m making this year compared to last year’s edition.
🔍 Britt’s Pick This Week
Ohh yes! You’re seeing a new section of the newsletter! Fancy that! Sometimes it’ll be Trello/productivity adjacent, and sometimes it’ll just be random but interesting. (You’ll have to let me know if you like this section and try out any of my picks.)
Our inaugural pick is going to be the only newsletter that’s better than this one 😄 … if you’re a business owner or just generally interested in what’s going on in the world, I recommend reading the Morning Brew newsletter every morning.
It’s one of the few daily newsletters I consistently read because it’s entertaining and informative, and as far as news goes, it’s fairly impartial.
*I don’t get paid for people signing up, but I could possibly earn swag depending on how many people sign up.

💡 Use Case Idea
Use Trello to organize your vision board! Maybe you don’t think you need one, or you think they’re just a big kid’s diary, but I’ve started to rethink them lately myself and have been working on my own.
Of course, like a physical vision board, it’s exactly what you want to make it. I have lists with different categories such as Career, Finance, Health, etc.
And the idea behind a vision board is that it’s a bit higher level than just goals. Goals are actionable, time-bound, and specific (at least if you’ve done them correctly), whereas vision is more of a longer term/general direction of things you’re heading towards rather than a super specific thing.
One of the (many) reasons I like using Trello for this is because you can customize card covers with images, which really makes your Trello board start to look like a Pinterest board - just with even more control and details.
That’s all for this week 👋 See you next week, and don’t forget to come join the live stream next Friday!
