[Trello Holiday Calendar] Day 6: Connect Boards with Butler
Using Trello Automation to sync boards together
Today’s post is by Hannah Morgan of Simpla Workflows!
Check out the original post in the Atlassian Community
Hannah goes through some amazing tips on how to sync data from one board to another with Butler automation features, like linked cards.
I won’t steal her thunder - you should really check out the post and see how she does it (she’s even included some handy gifs showing how them in action).
But I do want to echo that I find this type of thing very useful, and while in general I try to avoid mirroring and syncing cards, I do use Butler for a similar process of connecting boards together by setting up rules that let me easily move cards back and forth between boards and it puts them in the right space.
(Planning to write a more detailed post in the future about how I do this but here’s a quick teaser.)
Backlog Board
I have one board that contains my backlog. Each list is a type of project that I work on (side projects, home projects, etc.)
Sprint Board
This board has your to do/doing/done style and it’s where I keep track of what I’m working on each week since I manage my life like a sprint.
Bringing Them Together
The way I bring them together is with Butler! Rather than manually moving cards back and forth, I have a couple Butler rules that make this easy.
When a card is created on the `Backlog Board`, a custom field is updated with the name of the list
When the “next up” label is added to a card, it moves it to the “To Do” list in the `Sprint Board`.
When the “send back” label is added to a card, it moves it to `Backlog Board` in the list with the same name as the value of the Custom Field.
Happy automating!!!
