💼 Using Trello to find your dream job
🌮 Dear Taco
This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it Trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
Dear Taco,
I would love to know if there is a way to create meaningful reports at a Premium workspace level across all boards. I love Trello but I find it frustrating I don't seem to be able to easily report across all boards in a workspace to see what's on across the entire team.
Are there any fancy Power-ups or built-in solutions that might help?
Best wishes
Alex
Dear Alex,
I used to be so averse to keeping things in multiple Trello boards for this very reason—it felt cumbersome to try to keep track of too many things in different boards. But, Trello has come so far with both fancy Power-Ups AND built-in solutions, so I’m excited to answer your question because I now operate in multiple boards!
Built-In Options
My personal favorite is using Workspace Tables. With this view, you can select specific boards (and even lists within those boards), as well as other criteria to create a table of all the cards.
I personally use this as I have three different boards at my job for the different types of tasks I do and the different folks I interact with. But by using Workspace tables, I can see all of those tasks rolled up into one view. I have a table for “This Sprint” which are cards across multiple boards that are in specific lists. This is so much easier than going into multiple boards and see what’s in my To Do list, and it’s also so much less cluttered than keeping everything in one board, with my backlog and completed items as well.
Power-Ups
If you like the idea of tables but wish to see more info like custom fields, or how long a card has been in a list, or other fields in Trello, you should check out Blue Cat Reports.
If you like the Kanban/board style and wish you could have multiple boards show up in one board, try Placker. Similar to what we’ve been talking about, but it keeps the board view. There’s also plenty of other cool features to Placker on top of that, especially if you want to nerd out on project management.
You could also check out Screenful, another reporting Power-Up. I find this one gets really deep and is much better for super-deep reporting if you need to be able to estimate when you’ll finish a project or get some cool stats about how your cards move through your workflow, rather than being able to view specific items across multiple boards.
If you want to keep everything in one “main” Trello board, you could use Unito to mirror cards from various boards into one central board that has everything you need in it, but lets you operate from individual boards when you want.
I hope this helps!! Feel free to reply back to this if you’ve got some follow-up questions. I read every response from readers!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

This is the part of the newsletter where I highlight something I’ve found or I’m building!
Many of you are entrepreneurs and business folks, so I wanted to you all to be the first to know about an event I’m hosting with PixieBrix in two weeks.
I’m teaming up with one of my former coworkers from Elastic and we’ll discuss marketing/growth challenges and how to use tools (like PixieBrix of course) to solve them!
It’ll be short and sweet (~30 min long) and will be recorded. Please come join! I’ll be happy to answer any questions you all have about automation and growth, and I’m sure I’ll find a way to get Trello in there somewhere 😼
🗞 New(s) And Upcoming
Do you have Trello Dark Mode yet? If not, it will likely roll out to more folks soon, but check out my video for a sneak peek.
This newsletter is going back to weekly, folks! 🗓️ I tried an experiment of bi-weekly, but by golly, it’s almost as much work to go every two weeks as it was each week, and it gets me out of my rhythm, and you know me and my rhythms. (If you don’t, well, I’m nothing if not a creature of habit.)
Premium friends, we’ll return to the monthly office hours starting next Friday! If you want to get on a call with me to talk about Trello, the easiest way is to become a premium subscriber to my Substack.

💡 Use Case Idea
My partner was recently laid off and she’s in the market looking for a new job. (Hit me up if you are looking for an attorney, or someone who would be interested in making the jump to project managements!) So naturally, we’ve got a Trello board going to help her find a job.
We have tasks for working on her resume, showing her my special follow up plan, as well as a list of resources for saved files and anything she needs to access quickly.
The rest of the board is a linear workflow that each role goes through, from interested to applied to following up, and hopefully soon - offers!
Btw, if you’re also looking for a job and wondering about my “special follow-up” process, I made a video about it. I actually am thinking about trying to find a couple other folks who are looking for a job right now and doing a little bootcamp while my partner is going through this process as well. So reply back if you’d be interested in that.
Special shoutout to my premium subscribers!
