Underrated Trello use case
Collect the tiny things that annoy you and fix one a week
I’ve got a super simple Trello use case for this week but before we jump in, I’ve got a poll and I need your help!
Remember when I told you about Shareables? It’s an awesome tool for taking your structured info in one source, like Google Sheets, or Airtable, and then converting that into a nice UI that you can embed on your website.
After I posted that, everyone was like “this is cool, but can it work with Trello??” and the good news is “now it can!!” 🎉 Ryan is adding in that functionality and wants to make it extremely useful for Trello users. So click reply or comment and tell me…
What kind of Trello boards do you have that you’d want to embed that information somewhere else? Job listings? Products? Testimonials? Something else?
Now let’s talk about this underrated use case.
There are probably a hundred tiny things that annoy you each week. And what’s funny is if I asked, you might not even be able to list them, but you know it when this happens.
They’re not incredibly painful and… definitely not emergencies, but they’re a little annoying each time they happen. Kinda like papercuts.
You go to turn on your smart TV, and for some reason, the app you use 99% of the time is at the end of the list, and you always have to scroll to find it.
There’s a cabinet door that's hung sideways, and it's a little annoying to close.
You trip over something because you haven’t found a better place to put it.
We never fix those things because, in the moment, it feels like more work than just being annoyed.
But I’ve decided I’m going to make Trello help me stop getting these papercuts. 😂
I’m not forcing myself to fix one when I’m annoyed, but instead, when I notice one I’m collecting it in Trello. Just capturing it quickly to my inbox, and then moving it to my “Papercuts” list as I clean out my inbox.
Next, I’ve got an automation that every Saturday, it will grab one random card from the list, and add it to my “On Deck” list.
And then I can actually plan to solve one of those papercut problems and knock it out, at a time when I plan to solve it, and not when I’m annoyed by it!
The funny part is, these are really small tasks. I haven’t had any that take me more than five minutes to actually fix. And once I fix it, it’s infinitely better and I can’t believe I suffered with it for so long.
What about you? What kind of papercuts do you have that would be really fantastic to fix?
