🌮 Dear Taco meets Dear Diary
This is a section where readers can submit their Trello questions, and each week I’ll pick one and answer it! It’s like “Dear Abby” but make it trello. Have a question you want to submit? Share it here.
Hi Brittany! I want to start keeping a diary. I have researched online about it. Eventually, I decided that I want to do it using Trello. Do you have any comments on that? What should I pay attention to? How should I approach it to make it successful? What are important details to consider at the start? Maybe this is a good and inspiring idea for other interested parties as well. THANK YOU, I would be happy to hear from you. Best regards from a autumnal Vienna. PS: I know I haven't been in touch for a long time.
~ Ernst
Hey Ernst! Hope you’re doing well! I’m not sure if you mean the diary like journal, or diary like calendar, but either way Trello is great :)
It’s totally up to you how you want to structure it—you could make each day a list and then a card for each item you want to write about or each event. Or you could create lists based on various categories and then create cards for each item that falls in that category.
And if you want to use the start and due date fields, along with calendar views, you can view everything plotted nicely on a calendar!
The important thing to consider is what information you’re trying to make most visible. Is it what you need to see dates? make sure you’re utilizing date fields. Are you more interested in styling and journaling? Lean into the markdown and formatting options in the description of a card.
Here’s another blog post on the Trello blog that will give you some more inspiration, and also a SUPER OLD blog post I wrote about journaling in Trello!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

Term of the week
Q = short for quiet. Cards with a lot of cards on them can get kinda noisy. And while it’s nice to have everything in one place, sometimes you need to cut through the noise so….
Tip of the week
From any Trello board, press Q on your keyboard to automatically filter your board to only show cards where you’re a member.
