Hi,
the mail to board function is fantastic but i would prefer an option to mail to 2 different lists. 1 option is use of labels and search for keywords but that means manual work before sending to board.
is there any workaround with variables maybe to be able to send to multiple lists on a board?
thanks,
Femke
Hey Femke!
This sounds like a use case for Trello automation!
I would stick to one “inbox” list that you mail cards to, and then create automation that moves cards to different lists based on information about the card/email.
For instance, how are you currently sorting them? Is it something like when subject name contains “invoice” move to a list called Invoices? However you’re manually tagging them and sorting them, you can use automation to do that as well.
You’ll want to make a rule for each scenario. In the one I just described, you’d need a rule that looks for cards with the text “Invoice”.
Go to Automation —> Rules and choose the trigger for “when a card is emailed into the board”. (It’s the first one - just click added to and you’ll see an option appear for emailed into. )
After choosing emailed into, you’ll want to click that filter icon next to it to specify which cards you want to move. Sticking with our example, you’d go to the Content section of the filter and choose the name contains action and type something like “invoice”.
You this automatically includes capitalized or lowercase versions of the word! However, if you want to include multiple words, you’ll want to create something with regex, and paste something like this :
regex:/.*(salt|oil|water).*/
Replace salt, oil, and water, with whatever options you want and put a pipe | between them.
Now just click the plus button and then add an action to move that card where you want to move it!
Reply back or comment on this post if this helps or if you need some other way to sort the incoming cards!
Want to submit your question? Maybe it’ll be featured next week!

🍷 Pairs well with Trello (Jira!)
Ah the age old question… which is better, Trello or Jira? Well, funnily enough, Jira pairs well with Trello and I actually know some folks who use both. Wondering which you should use for your next project or your team?
Of course I’m biased to Trello, but I’ll admit - there are some situations where you might find Jira more suitable for what you want. Primarily— if your team is already using it and happy with it!! No need to switch!
I created a framework for you how you can decide. Just answer these 5 questions and it’ll be clear what you need!
PS - I made this video walking through both tools and showing you how to apply the framework. Send it to all your friends who are obsessed with Jira :)
